Full Manuscript and First Pages Edits

First Pages Edit

THIS IS FOR YOU IF:

You want an objective appraisal of whether your book is off to a good start and you’re on the right track. It’s also an option if you aren’t ready to invest in a full edit but you want to road-test the critical opening of your book to see if it kicks off in the right place and has all the elements in place to keep readers reading.

WHAT YOU’LL GET:

  • Specific feedback on your opening pages with inline edits and margin comments concerning theme, pacing, momentum, voice, and other aspects of craft and writing mechanics and, to the extent possible, structure
  • A detailed multi-page editorial letter summarizing the pages’ strengths and weaknesses and offering recommendations for revision and next steps
  • A 45-minute Zoom or call to discuss the feedback and the way forward.

TIME FRAME:

Two to three weeks after our agreed-upon start time and receipt of your copy.

INVESTMENT:

$250 for your first 25 pages

$500 for your first 50 pages

If you subsequently request a developmental edit, the fee for this edit will be deducted from the cost of the developmental edit.

WHEN WE’RE DONE:

You’ll have caught problems early, will have clear recommendations for revision, and will be better able to map out and finish your book. At this point you may want to consider coaching to help you develop the book.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF:

You’ve completed and perfected to the best of your ability a first draft and need clear, fresh eyes and a professional perspective on what’s working and what isn’t. It also addresses structure, theme, pacing, momentum, voice, and other aspects of craft and writing mechanics.

WHAT YOU’LL GET:

  • Numerous and substantial inline edits and margin comments throughout the manuscript
  • A detailed 8+ page editorial letter outlining strengths and weaknesses and identifying necessary steps for revision
  • A one-hour call or Zoom to discuss feedback and recommend next steps
  • While it may include some minor copy and line editing, it generally doesn’t address grammar, typos, or other minor errors.

TIME FRAME:

One month from our agreed-upon start time and the receipt of your copy.

INVESTMENT:

$2,850, for manuscripts of up to 70,000 words

$0.4 for each additional word

WHEN WE’RE DONE:

You’ll be ready to revise your manuscript based on solid suggestions and prepare to submit it to agents or publishers. After a developmental edit you may want to consider coaching services for further support as you revise.
