A few words

About How I Work

My favorite clients are those who are highly motivated yet battle limitations—whether external or internal—writers who need help hurdling obstacles that hold them back from starting the books they’ve always wanted to write or from following through on their ideas and achieving their goals. These include :

  • People with ADHD: those–like me—who need help overcoming aspects of neurodivergence that make meeting their writing goals seem out of reach and who need to learn to make use of their unique gifts

  • Women 55+: those who may have put off their writing dreams when life got in the way and wonder if it’s too late, if they’re too old, if there’s not enough time, or who worry that they can’t be “real” writers if they haven’t been doing it for years. (Hint: the answer is no!)

  • Memoirists: especially those who struggle with finding the right structure for their stories

  • Anyone who gets stuck from time to time (in other words, all writers): whether because of perfectionism, procrastination, imposter syndrome, or a simple inability to harness and organize their ideas

Why do I love working with these types of clients? Because I’ve been them. I AM them. I understand each of these struggles. Having only recently been diagnosed with ADHD, I know all too well that it can make it feel impossible to sustain a productive writing practice. I know what it’s like when year after year a writing career takes a backseat to the unavoidable demands of life, until it seems time is running out, and I’m all too familiar with the frustration of trying to find the best scaffolding for my memoir. And there isn’t a writer anywhere who hasn’t been stuck in one way or another. You probably wouldn’t be here if you haven’t felt undermined in some way. Each of these challenges—hard enough in and of itself—can also be overlayed with regret and shame. I get it.

As an Author Accelerator-certified book coach*—and someone with lived experience that mirrors yours—I’ll work with you to root out self-limiting beliefs and help you lean into your unique strengths. I’ll encourage and nurture the qualities that will allow you to excel. I’ll be the taskmaster to keep you focused, accountable, and dedicated to making it across the finish line. We’ll work together to give you the clarity you need to get out of your own way, mute the noises in your head that reinforce your self-limiting beliefs, and develop strategies to combat doubt and boost confidence. Let me help identify what’s standing in your way and offer strategies to help you get unstuck so you can advance confidently down the path toward publication. Once we create a custom plan to help you accomplish your vision, I’ll provide editorial feedback that’s both professional and sensitive, as well as instructional and collaborative.

Coaching is a highly individualized practice, and to meet your needs, a good coach has to wear a lot of hats. I’ll be whatever you need most: a cheerleader, taskmaster, brainstormer, sounding board, mentor, project manager, skill booster, reality tester, or emotional support person.

*As a nonfiction book coach certified by Author Accelerator, I can coach writers using Author Accelerator’s methods and tools, but I’m an independent coach and not affiliated with that business.
