A few words about

What I Do

I work exclusively with nonfiction authors to help them level up, fine-tune their writing, and advance their publishing goals. My approach is high-touch, tough but compassionate, and completely tailored to their individual needs.

As an editor, I offer manuscript evaluation, line editing, and developmental editing services to writers of books about virtually any subject matter, though I’m always particularly eager to work with authors of memoir, narrative nonfiction, and personal development books.

As a coach—while I’m happy to support any type of nonfiction author—I lean toward clients who have special needs and face particular challenges, for example, people with ADHD and women 55+. And although I offer numerous coaching services, I specialize in helping writers create outstanding book proposals and develop persuasive pitching strategies.

What My Clients Say

Kate (B.K.) is an intuitive, generous editor besides being a talented writer herself. Her keen eye elevated my work from a place I considered "finished" to writing that was more insightful and propulsive. Her long career as a content editor combined with her own creative writing skill results in constructive feedback that helps writers dig deeper and achieve greater clarity while still honoring their singular voice. Kate has helped me both develop my craft and review my own work with a more critical eye. Open communication and timelessness are hallmarks of her work with writers. I wholeheartedly recommend her editing and coaching services.

Essayist and author of the memoir The Full Catastrophe: All I Ever Wanted...Everything I Feared
I’ve worked with freelance editors, a book coach and have been in multiple writing groups. But no one has understood and improved my work like Kate has. Yes, she’s highly skilled and deeply experienced. But what sets her apart is the genuine presence she brings to every collaboration. So many of my past experiences felt transactional and detached. Kate’s guidance and feedback are rooted in her generous presence and her unusual ability to see more than what’s on the page. As a writer living with ADHD, I’ve wanted to quit so many times. Now I understand why. Kate is truly invested in getting her clients’ work out into the world. After sifting through a virtual sea of freelance editors and writing coaches, I finally found someone who gets me. I feel very lucky.

Essayist, features and travel writer, working on a memoir
For two years I avoided writing the dreaded book proposal, but with Kate's help, I was not only able to face it, I even enjoyed the process! This was due entirely to Kate's clear and encouraging guidance. She broke the task into manageable chunks and cheered me on every step of the way—even when what I'd done didn't reflect what she knew I was capable of. That's the wonderful thing about Kate: she knows what's good because she's also a brilliant editor and gifted writer, yet her feedback is delivered in such a gentle, matter of fact way that it would be impossible to take offence. Not only did I take nothing she said personally (as would be my usual style), I was inspired and motivated to do my best for her. That is the mark of a spectacular book coach!

Working with Kate was an invaluable experience. Her editorial expertise helped me refine my vision and discover a viable market for my book. Kate researched potential agents to query and compiled a list that was stunning and thorough. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Kate and highly recommend her as a coach!
